Our activities in support of Ukraine
Polafund – The Polish American Children’s Relief Fund For Ukraine was created in the first weeks of the Ukrainian War by American, Polish, and Ukrainian philanthropists that saw the desperate needs of Ukrainian IDPs and refugees pouring westward. The organization started by feeding refugees in the Krakow main train station to now providing aid as far as Kharkhiv. Polafund’s volunteers have driven thousands of kilometers to provide food, hygienic, and educational supplies as well as psychological therapy to war-torn Ukrainians. Polafund functions through generous donors from around the globe. Thank you to our donors for supporting our mission.

Relief Work in Uman
Polafund travelled to Uman, Ukraine in mid-July to inspect reported cases of need. The team inspected 2 food and supply hubs as well as shelters. The biggest needs in the area were hygienic supplies and bed sheets. Polafund was able to supply families in the surrounding villages in the most dire need soaps, detergents, and diapers. Polafund is looking for donors to supply the needed bedding materials.

Relief in Kropyvnytskyi
Polafund sent Chief Inspector Andriy Kryzhynivskyy to Kropyvnytiskyi, Ukraine after receiving an email that families outside of the city were in desperate need of food. Andriy supplied around a dozen families with aid. In July, the Polafund executive leadership also visited the city and supplied the same families with more food and hygienic supplies aid.

Water Pumps for Art School
Polafund team travelled to an art school in western Ukraine that supports internally displaced students from the war-ravaged areas of Ukraine. The director of the school, Valerii Vovk, informed us that to open, the school needed two pumps to provide water for the school and two portable toilets for the “bomb shelter” underneath the school. We were able to purchase the pumps and toilets and look forward to seeing the students return to school.

Medicine in Collaboration
Polafund leadership met with representatives from SVA, Humanosh, and Ilios in the Lemko lands of southeastern Poland at a shelter Humanosh and Ilios sponsor containing 60 refugees. With so many people, there are always needs. Polafund provided medicines and SVA funded hygienic supplies. Together, humanitarian ambassadors representing Japan, Poland, and America helped the Ukrainian nation stay clean, safe, healthy, and strong.

Dnipro July 2022
Polafund initially sent Chief Inspector Andriy Kryzhanivskyy to Dnipro in late June after hearing reports of acute need. After his visit and providing some food and appliance aid, Andriy reported that Dnipro in fact was in need of aid but also had competent organizations in the city. In late mid-July, we sent the Polafund executive leadership to the city where they toured multiple shelters and two supply hubs. Finding need in both hubs and shelters the Polafund team provided food relief in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as buying beds and mattresses for shelters in need.

Skola Palace Shelter
In mid-May 2022, the Polafund Team first heard about the desperate needs of IDPs at a shelter in an old Austrian palace at Skola widely known as the shelter with the worst conditions in the Lviv area. The shelter houses approximately 60 people, mostly women and children from the war-torn eastern districts. Once we inspected the shelter we quickly realized that they had many needs and that our work at the shelter would take months. We first bought them a refrigerator and washing machine. By June, we had renovated two bathrooms, installed a shower, put down flooring in the kitchen and remodeled the children’s room. By the end of July, we had created a new toilet room, installed a new sink for the shower room, installed a small above ground swimming pool for the children, and renovated an existing shower. We are in regular contact with the director Vasil, and the palace caretaker Ivan and provide relief as needed.
